COACH OF THE YEAR
The U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association recently announced that Brandon Smith has been named the 2020 Boys' High School Cross Country Coach of the Year for the state of Arkansas.
This honor was based upon Brandon's leadership and the performance of the Lake Hamilton High School boys' team throughout the 2020 season.
The USTFCCCA Cross Country and Track & Field Coach of the Year award program is sponsored by the United States Marine Corps. The program annually recognizes the success of high school coaches for boys' and girls' cross country and track & field in all 50 states and the District of Columbia as well as a National Coach of the Year in the respective sports.
The U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) is a non-profit professional organization representing cross country and track & field coaches of all levels. The organization represents over 10,000 coaching members encompassing NCAA track & field and cross country programs of all divisions, the NAIA, the NJCAA and several state high school track & field/cross country coaches associations.

COVID-19 UPDATE
Last week, Governor Hutchinson announced that all public health directives (with the exception of the mask mandate) are changing to public health guidance. While a directive is a mandate, the Governor said that guidance is a strong recommendation. Governor Hutchinson will reassess the state's progress in the COVID-19 pandemic as we approach March 31.
School districts have been given the authority to continue requiring students, staff, and visitors to abide by Arkansas Department of Health guidance, which includes wearing masks and social distancing.
At this time, nothing has changed for staff, students, or visitors to schools/events at Lake Hamilton. The Lake Hamilton School District believes the reason we have made over 115 days of onsite instruction is by following and adhering to Arkansas Department of Health guidelines. Even though the directives (with the exception of the mask mandate) have been changed to guidelines, the district is still required to follow the quarantine and contact tracing guidelines. All staff, students, and visitors on campus will be required to continue wearing masks and social distancing until further notice.

Y.E.S. COMPETITION
Lake Hamilton Gifted and Talented students have been offered virtual and onsite opportunities this year. The students chose a project related to their own interests. The sixth grade group (pictured) chose to compete in the Youth Entrepreneur Showcase (Y.E.S.) project sponsored by Arkansas Capital Corporation. The Y.E.S. competition is a project where students write a business plan, create a product, and explain how to produce, sell and promote their product. This group of students chose to start a business called Split Snack. It is a plastic bag to hold more than one snack. They also researched plastic waste and how their product may help in slowing waste. Each year at the Arkansans for Gifted and Talented Education conference the winners of the competition display their products.
