The Lake Hamilton School District Board of Education unanimously appointed Joe Johnson to Position 51 during its regular meeting on Tuesday, October 20, 2026. Johnson will serve a six-year term ending in March 2032.
The appointment follows the vacancy created by the departure of former board member Mark Curry in August. Following the vacancy, the district accepted applications from qualified community members interested in serving on the Board of Education.
A 1998 graduate of Lake Hamilton High School, Johnson has lived in the district for 42 years and has deep personal and professional ties to the community. He and his wife, Wendi, have three children: Cole and Cash, both Lake Hamilton graduates, and Cameron, a junior at Lake Hamilton High School.
Johnson owns and operates Smokin' in Style BBQ and 501 Archery. His community involvement includes serving on the National Park College Hospitality Advisory Board and previously serving as president of the Lake Hamilton Optimist Club, where he spent 10 years on its Board of Directors. He is also a familiar voice to #LHWolfNation, serving as the public address announcer for home football games at Wolf Stadium.
"We are excited to welcome Joe to the Lake Hamilton School District Board of Education," said Board President Dana Keithley. "His longstanding ties to Lake Hamilton, involvement in our community, and commitment to the success of our schools will bring a valuable perspective to the board. We look forward to working alongside him as we continue making decisions that put students first, support our teachers and staff, and build on the strong foundation of excellence throughout our district."
Johnson expressed his appreciation for the opportunity to serve and his commitment to the future of Lake Hamilton.
"I believe in the students of Lake Hamilton and the incredible potential each one of them has," Johnson said. "As a board member, I want to help ensure our students have the opportunities and resources they need to succeed, while making sure our teachers and staff have the support and tools necessary to do what they do best. Lake Hamilton has a proud tradition of excellence, and I'm honored to be part of a team committed to building on that tradition and keeping our district among the very best."
In his application, Johnson emphasized the importance of academic and extracurricular opportunities, responsible stewardship of district resources, and continued investment in the students, staff, and facilities that contribute to Lake Hamilton's success.
