Lake Hamilton School District Winter Weather Communication Plan

The Lake Hamilton School District carefully monitors weather conditions throughout the winter months. When snow, ice, or hazardous conditions may impact travel, the district follows a thorough process to determine whether school will open on time, delay, or close. Our highest priority is always the safety and security of our students and staff.

District officials evaluate road conditions across the area and review updated weather forecasts before making any decision. Because weather can vary across our large district, these decisions are not always easy—but student and staff safety remains the determining factor.

👉 When weather forecasts are questionable, we strongly encourage parents to have a plan in place in case school is canceled or delayed. Preparing ahead of time helps ensure a smooth morning for families should changes occur.

How We Will Notify Families of a School Closure or Delay

As soon as a decision is made, Lake Hamilton will share the information immediately through the following communication methods:

Automated Phone Calls

  • If the decision is made before 9:00 p.m., an automated phone call will go out that night.

  • If the decision is made after 9:00 p.m., the automated phone call will be sent at 6:00 a.m.

Inclement Weather Days

LHSD has five inclement weather days built into the district calendar:

  • February 16

  • March 20

  • April 17

  • May 26–27

If school must close unexpectedly, those days will be used as make-up days.

If no closures occur before a scheduled inclement-weather day, students and staff will not attend school that day.

Important Reminder About AMI Days

Under the Arkansas LEARNS Act, schools may no longer use AMI (Alternative Methods of Instruction) days to count toward required instructional time. Any missed school days due to weather or emergencies must be made up in person using the inclement weather days built into the calendar.

Lake Hamilton School District is committed to keeping families informed and prepared. Thank you for your support as we work together to keep every Wolf safe during winter weather.
