READING RERQUIREMENT

Lake Hamilton School District’s goal is for every student to become a confident, successful reader. As part of the Arkansas LEARNS Act, third-grade students are now required to meet a minimum reading standard to be promoted to fourth grade.

Our teachers and staff are trained to provide high-quality reading instruction and targeted support to meet each student’s individual needs, and there are multiple pathways and resources available for students who may need additional time or help. In addition, the LEARNS Act allows for certain exemptions when appropriate.

We are committed to partnering with you and your child every step of the way, as families play an important role in their student’s reading journey. Reading together for just 20 minutes a day and talking about the story will help strengthen your child’s comprehension and confidence. Your child’s teacher can also give student-specific strategies to work on at home.

Parents of third graders will receive individualized promotion update information through ParentSquare on Tuesday, October 21st. If you don’t receive an update or have any questions regarding the information provided, please email Frankie.Glover@lhwolves.net.

You can view your child’s state assessment results through the ATLAS Parent Portal. Access codes were sent to families through ParentSquare on Tuesday, October 14th. If you didn’t receive an access code or need help logging in, please email Jennifer.Bradley@lhwolves.net
