Surrounded by cheering students and staff at Lake Hamilton Elementary School, Superintendent Shawn Higginbotham announced Gina Johnson as the 2025 Lake Hamilton School District Teacher of the Year during a surprise assembly this morning.

Johnson, who teaches music to all 2nd and 3rd grade students at the elementary school, has spent over 27 years in education and is currently in her eighth year with the Lake Hamilton School District. Her love for teaching and the arts is evident in every lesson, production, and student interaction.

Known for her high-quality musicals and performances, Johnson leads large-scale productions each year while also maintaining a full classroom schedule. Her work blends music, movement, speech, and drama in a way that engages students and fosters creativity, confidence, and collaboration.

In addition to her classroom work, Johnson regularly supports other music and theatre departments across the district, offering her time, expertise, and encouragement. She holds a Bachelor of Music Education and is completing her Master of Education. She is also certified in ESOL and trained in the Orff-Schulwerk and World Music Drumming approaches, bringing a wide range of instructional strategies to her classroom.

"Gina Johnsonโ€™s commitment to her students, colleagues, and the arts is truly exceptional,โ€ said Superintendent Higginbotham. โ€œHer ability to inspire, connect, and lead through music makes a tremendous impact across our district. We are honored to recognize her as this yearโ€™s Teacher of the Year.โ€

The Lake Hamilton School District congratulates Gina Johnson on this well-earned recognition and thanks her for her continued dedication to our students and community.
