Community Service Learning
Class of 2027 Graduation Requirement: Students in the Class of 2027 and beyond are now required to complete community service to earn a high school diploma in Arkansas (Act 237 of 2023, pages 38-39). The law requires that students earn 75 hours of community service in order to graduate. Lake Hamilton recommends students earn 15 hours in 9th grade, then 20 hours in each grade thereafter (10th, 11th, and 12th) to equal 75 hours.

What counts as Community Service Learning?

Could be accomplished by participating with a School Group, a Non-School Group, or Individually
The three parts of Community Service Learning:
Planning: arrange a date/time, make contact with a person at the place you are going, plan around scheduling conflicts with your or parentโs work, sports, etc., where is there a need, how will you get there, etc.
Action: a time to serve others, connect with the community and businesses, make new friends, learn social skills, learn about career choices, network with employers
Reflection: What have you learned about people, place, and/or yourself? What might you do differently next time?
