The Lake Hamilton School District Board of Education approved the 2026–27 school calendar during its meeting on January 19, 2026. The approved calendar is considered an alternative calendar, meaning it is based on the total number of instructional hours students attend school rather than the traditional count of student days.
For the 2026–27 school year, the daily schedule will be:
School start time: 7:50 AM
School dismissal: 3:15 PM

What Is an Alternative Calendar?
An alternative calendar allows the district greater flexibility by meeting state instructional requirements through hours of instruction instead of days. This approach provides stability and predictability for students, staff, and families—especially during years impacted by weather.
Why This Calendar Benefits Students, Staff, and Families
The 2026–27 alternative calendar offers several key benefits:
Built-in inclement weather days:
The calendar includes five inclement weather days already built into the schedule. If the district does not miss more than five days due to weather, no make-up days will be required at the end of the school year.More predictable scheduling:
Families can plan with confidence knowing that weather-related disruptions are less likely to impact summer plans or extend the school year.More three-day weekends for students and staff:
The calendar intentionally includes at least one three-day weekend each month (with some months offering longer breaks), supporting student wellness, family time, and staff development.Consistency across the year:
The alternative calendar creates a more consistent rhythm for instruction, assessment, and recovery time, which supports student learning and engagement.
The Lake Hamilton School District is committed to calendars that support high-quality instruction, student well-being, and family-friendly planning. We appreciate the feedback from our community and look forward to a successful 2026–27 school year.
