Dear Lake Hamilton High School Families,
The month of June was a busy one at Lake Hamilton High School as we continued preparing for another great school year. Our custodial and maintenance teams have been hard at work waxing floors, painting classrooms, and completing other projects throughout the building to ensure our campus is ready to welcome students back. Open House will be here before we know it, and as July comes to a close, the pace will continue to pick up as we make our final preparations for the first day of school.
Summer is also an excellent time to make sure your child's immunizations are up to date. If your student needs updated vaccinations to meet state requirements, you should have received notification from the school before summer break. Taking care of immunizations now can help avoid delays or long wait times as the school year approaches. If you have questions about your student's immunization status, please don't hesitate to contact the high school office.
Our Concurrent Biology classes have reached capacity and are now full. However, we still have a limited number of seats available in College Algebra/Trig and Comp I/Comp II. If your student is interested in enrolling in one of these courses and meets the qualification requirements, please email me a copy of your student's ACT or Accuplacer scores so we can determine eligibility and reserve a spot if space is available. College Algebra/Trig is mainly a 10th or 11th grade course and Comp I/Comp II is mainly a senior level course.
Summer is also a wonderful opportunity for students to begin earning community service hours. Beginning with this school year, all graduates will be required to complete 75 hours of documented community service as part of the graduation requirements. These hours may be earned at any time during a student's high school career, from ninth through twelfth grade. Whether students are volunteering through a church, nonprofit organization, school activity, community event, or another approved service opportunity, every hour counts. The easiest way to keep track of summer volunteer work is to simply record the date, organization, activity, and hours in a notebook or on a phone. Once school begins, students will be able to enter their service hours and receive credit for the time they have volunteered.
